A HUG FOR HUMANITY

The world needs a hug.

On 4 October 2026 it will be eight hundred years since the death of Saint Francis of Assisi. On that day, and on the night before it, we invite the world to make a gesture as old as humanity itself: to hug one another.

No speeches. No flags. Nobody asked where they come from or what they believe.

How to take part

1. Choose your moment. Any moment of 4 October, or of the night of the 3rd. There is no set time: the gesture travels around the planet across the whole day.

2. Hug someone. Whoever you want, wherever you are. At home, at work, in the street, in a square. Someone you love, someone you know, a stranger. A few seconds is enough.

3. Tell it. A photo, a video, a message. With #AHugForHumanity, so that one hug kindles another.

What this is not

This is not a religious campaign. It asks for adherence to no doctrine. It raises no funds. It promotes no organisation, and it creates no movement that anyone could claim as their own. It has no political or commercial purpose.

It is addressed to believers and non-believers, to people of every culture, nationality and way of thinking. The message of Saint Francis of Assisi belongs to no religion: it belongs to every human being capable of recognising another human being as a brother.

Perhaps the world will not change that night. But perhaps two people will. And then two more. And two more.

WE ARE ONE HUMANITY · YOU, TOO, ARE THE OTHER · WE ARE ALL BROTHERS AND SISTERS
