The choice of the Planetarium carries a specific symbolism: its dome represents the sky, a space shared by the entire human species regardless of political, cultural, or religious differences. The organizers plan to light up the building with the word “Peace,” provided the technical equipment allows for the projection. This gesture aims to reinforce the message that all individuals belong to a single human community, despite their individual or social differences.

Alejandro Roemmers expressed his view on the current state of the world during the presentation of the event: “There are moments in history, like this one, when it is not enough to stand aside and watch as fear, division, and confrontation lead us into darkness and destruction.” The initiative does not aim to directly solve geopolitical problems, but rather to recover a basic gesture of closeness between people who may hold different ideas. He added: “Perhaps the world won’t change that night. But maybe two people will. And then two more. And two more.”

The gathering requires no formal membership, raises no funds, and has no commercial or partisan aims. The invitation is extended to believers and non-believers around the world. Although the Planetarium serves as the physical meeting point, the initiative encourages people to share the hug wherever they are. To raise awareness of the proposal, its promoter suggested on social media: “Choose your moment: any time throughout the day. Hug: at home, at work, or on the street; someone you love, an acquaintance, or someone who thinks differently. A few seconds are enough.”

Participants can share photos or videos with the hashtag “#UnAbrazoPorLaHumanidad” to spread the message. The initiative is supported by the Buenos Aires City Government and seeks to replicate a model that originated in Assisi, Italy. The ultimate goal is to turn the gesture into a spontaneous practice of empathy that helps bridge social divides in a time of tension. The date coincides with the saint’s religious feast day, but the call maintains a secular and universal character, open to everyone.
