This is the second edition of the Madrid, Capital of Ibero-America Awards, promoted by Madrid City Council and the Ibero-American Business Alliance Council (CEAPI)
MADRID.- The Spanish capital once again dresses up to recognize the excellence, leadership, and commitment of Latin America to Europe. At the second edition of the Madrid, Capital of Ibero-America Awards, promoted by Madrid City Council and the Ibero-American Business Alliance Council (CEAPI), Venezuelan journalist Miguel Henrique Otero, Peruvian businessman Carlos Vargas Loret de Mola, and Argentine writer and patron of the arts Alejandro Roemmers emerged as this year’s top honorees.
In the Connection and Communication category, the award went to Miguel Henrique Otero, president and editor of the newspaper El Nacional, for his tireless career defending independent journalism and press freedom. From his residence in Madrid, Otero has managed to turn the newspaper into a cutting-edge digital platform and an essential information bridge for the Venezuelan diaspora and the entire Ibero-American community, consolidating the Spanish capital as a stronghold for the free practice of journalism.
Meanwhile, the Business Initiative award highlighted the drive of Carlos Vargas Loret de Mola, CEO of Andino Investment Holding. His strategic vision has made it possible to connect the markets of Latin America and Europe through the creation of the group’s first air cargo terminal at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport and the listing of the company on BME Growth, strengthening Madrid’s position as the ideal gateway for transatlantic investment and capital.
In the field of Cultural Initiative, the award celebrated the legacy and work of Argentine poet, author, and businessman Alejandro Roemmers, president of the Argentine Foundation for Poetry. The distinction pays tribute to his constant support for the arts, literature, and human development, showcasing Madrid, a key city in his literary development, as a showcase for creation and encounter for Hispanic American culture.
The official award ceremony will take place on October 15 at the iconic Cecilio Rodríguez Gardens in Retiro Park, in an event presided over by Mayor José Luis Martínez-Almeida as part of the Hispanic Heritage Week celebrations.
